FACULTY BIO FOR CARYN HEILMAN |
|
Caryn Heilman enjoys movement class for the chance to explore, and for the chance to deepen the consciousness with which we move. She is particularly fascinated with the possibilities inherent in a new approach to the body from the perspective of the fluid system. When you acknowledge that your body is mostly water, you find that you are no longer thinking about it as an object. It feels more accurate to say that you are in motion. Your body feels more connected and movement is less about making shapes in time and space, and is experienced more in terms of energy and communication. Caryn danced for ten years with the Paul Taylor Dance Company before founding LiquidBody media, movement and dance. She has a BFA in Modern Dance from Texas Christian University where she studied Graham technique and Choreography under Jerry Bywaters Cochran. She is the recipient of a Graduate Assistantship in Choreography for Television and Film from TCU, as well as scholarships from the American Dance Festival and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center. She has studied extensively with visionary Continuum Movement founder Emilie Conrad, and spent many years with Margie Beals studying improvisation as well as a summer with Simone Forti. She also has a background in Astanga yoga, Tama-do and Pilates technique. Caryn has traveled the world giving master classes and workshops in places including Beijing Dance Academy, Princeton University, Smith College, Rio Caliente spa, La Reserve spa, Joffrey/New School BFA program, 92nd St. Y and the Taylor school. |
